This is one piece in a set of paintings I did called Black Beauty. These paintings where motivated by a complex combination of emotions, ideological, political and sociological thoughts and feelings. I’ve been feeling powerless since the current president and his supporters have been in office. It pains me to see the rise of open racism in our country and our political leaders, it feels as though we are going backwards. These paintings of beautiful black woman are the only way I know how to have a louder voice and take a small amount of power back.
From tribal to modern, future to fantasy, these portraits highlight many different cultures, both imaginary and real and shades of black and brown woman. Black woman are underrepresented in almost every facet of American media and art is no exception. My hope is that these paintings start a conversation or spark emotion in you.
